"It's Honor To Play For Washington Capitals."

Roman Hamrlik missed the memo.

"I was choosing Capitals for hopefully go deep in the playoffs and win the Cup one day."

Dude hasn't heard (ibid).

And what's this about Chris Bourque signing with the Capitals? He was away in Europe, free and clear. Given the number of players on the roster, he's probably still going to play mostly in Hershey, along with minor league free agent Ryan Potulny.

Potulny has played 126 NHL games to Bourque's 33. He's posted 49 points in the big league to Bourque's 4. But he's also two years older, and didn't play in Europe last year, so their stat lines may be on a similar trajectory. These are the kind of players who have a chance to break into the NHL, but still give their all in the AHL if they don't.

These are the kind of players that look for a good team to join, because they can.

Maybe after leading the conference for two straight years, this team is actually a respected contender?

Or maybe the Caps' association with the Hershey Bears is continuing to pay dividends. The Bears have won more championships than any team in minor hockey and they constantly attract the kind of talent that can fit right in on many NHL rosters.

The Capitals don't have their long history, but they've got a pretty good run going. Maybe they're getting to be a bit of a draw, themselves?
